Abstract

Problem setting. Market transformation of the economy has caused the formation of new models of personal consumption. The transition from a defi cit of consumption to consumerism as a form of consumerism, based on the principle of waste is accompanied by the adaptation of the population to market principles of economy and have generated new patterns of consumption.
Recent research and publications analysis. Problems of personal consumption are in the focus of scientists economists. Of particular relevance are becoming issues of peculiarities of penetration of consumerism in post-socialist countries, the institutionalization of consumption.
Paper objective. The article aims at the analysis of the peculiarities of adaptation of the population to market economy and formation of new models of consumption.
Paper main body. Questions about the nature of the personal needs and personal consumption remains debatable and socially acute, especially for transition economies. The transition from a defi cient economy to a market economy has brought to life a new adaptation mechanisms and models of consumer behaviour. An important factor that made a signifi cant impact on this process provides the consumer society in the socio-cultural field and other transition economies is the institutionalization of new models of consumption,
the destruction of old institutions (of all, the defi cit and others) and the emergence of new (selection, advertising, consumerism and others). Individual consumption of the main part of population goes beyond dictated by the natural needs, and turns into a key part of the human reproduction social. Differentialization of the population by income level leads to a variety and features of adaptation of the population to the development of market relations and differences in consumption patterns.
Conclusions of the research. In transitive societies dramatically changed the nature of personal consumption. The transition to a consumer society exposes deep institutionalization of personal consumption and turn it into a key factor of economic development. The modern culture of consumerism requires signifi cant adjustments and acquire the values, aimed at the development of human character.
